Barrios’ Brace, Marin’s 10 Saves Snaps Women’s Soccers’ Winless Drought vs. Old Westbury

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's soccer team defeated the SUNY College at Old Westbury, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon. With the result, the Bears have won five of their last six against the Panthers, including a three-match winning streak dating back to the 2021 season. The triumph also snapped the navy and gray's five-match winless run.

How it Happened

Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) needed the opening 41 seconds to give the Bears an early 1-0 advantage, doubling it up five minutes later for the eventual game-winner. Old Westbury broke any chance of a clean sheet in the 25th minute courtesy of Alyse Then.

Four minutes prior to the half, Barrios provided an assist to Mary Hall (Rochester, N.Y./West Irondequoit) to confirm the 3-1 scoreline.

The Panthers applied constant pressure to the Bears' defense, registering 14 of their 23 shots in the stanza but Julia Marin (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) came up with seven saves.

For the Bears

  • Barrios' brace brings her team-leading total to five goals. She also handed out her second assist this season.

  • Hall scored her first collegiate goal in the win.
