Velez Named HVWAC Swimming Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK, NY – In reports released earlier this week by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference, freshman Nicolle Velez (Brooklyn, NY/Archbishop Molloy)  was named HVWAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending November 15th, 2009.

In the conference dual against Sarah Lawrence College, the rookie butterfly specialist placed in both individual events she swam – winning the 50 yard butterfly (38.69) and taking third in the 100 yard event in the same disciple (1:35.38).  Velez also helped her team take third in the 200 medley relay and second in the 200 freestyle relay.

This is the first time ever for a Lady Bear to receive the honor with the team competing in their first full varsity season this year.
