McMaster Sets School Record, Lady Bears Three Meet Winning Streak Halted

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's swimming team lost its first meet of the calendar year Sunday afternoon, 129-103, to defending HVWAC champions, Sarah Lawrence. The Lady Bears are now 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.

The Lady Bears fell behind early and weren't able to catch up to the Gryphons. St. Joseph's did win two individual events, the 50 yard breaststroke and the 50 yard freestyle.

Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) took first place honors in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 29.76. Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) followed her in second place with a time of 31.00.

Although she finished in second, McMaster broke her own school record in the 100 yard freestyle. Her time of 1:05.16 set the record by .15 seconds.

Laura Sonnylal (Richmond Hill, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was the other Lady Bear to win an event. She won the 50 yard breaststroke in a season's best time of 41.98.

St. Joseph's will look to secure their first ever winning season as they take on Old Westbury in the final meet of the regular season. The Lady Bears will be celebrating senior night at Brooklyn Technical High School on Wednesday, February 2nd. Meet time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
