Women's Swimming Opens Season With Conference Win

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's swim team kicked off their second full varsity season with a victory over Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference foe, New Rochelle 57-29. In front of a large crowd at Brooklyn Technical High School, the Lady Bears were in charge from start to finish.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Brianne Reilly (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra), Olivia O'Hara, Nicholle Velez and Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) got the crowd into it early with a victory in the first event. The girls finished the race in 2:22:87, good for second all time in school history. McMaster, one of the team captains, had an impressive finish in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing in second place in 7:49:87. 

O'Hara finished her night with two individual victories in addition to the relay. She took first place in both the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke.

Junior Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was the final Lady Bear to take an event, winning the 100 yard freestyle in 1:13:03. Reilly also put together a solid night, finishing in second place in both the 100 yard fly and the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Lady Bears put the exclamation point on the meet as the relay team of McMaster, Velez, Fiorella, and Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) won the 400 yard freestyle in 4:44:93.

St. Joseph's jumps back in the pool on Monday, November 22nd at Brooklyn College. Meet time is set for 7:00 pm.
