McMaster and O’Hara Set School Records in Patchogue Double Dual

PATCHOGUE, NY - The annual East meets West matchup between St. Joseph's College Patchogue and St. Joseph's College Brooklyn kicked off with the women swimming in a tri-match alongside the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) set two season's bests and established a new school record in the 50 yard freestyle, and Olivia O'Hara (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall)broke her own record in the 100 yard backstroke, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Bears fell to the Patchogue campus 53-39 and USMMA 68-25.

McMaster's 28.61 in the 50 freestyle set a Lady Bears record and it was only the second time this season that anyone broke 30 seconds. McMaster followed up that performance with another season's best in the 100 yard freestyle. She took fourth overall, but set a new season high with a time of 1:05.93.

McMaster capped off her day in the 200 yard freestyle relay, where she, O'Hara, Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) had a season's best time of 2:04.67.

O'Hara broke her own school record by over two seconds, with her time of 1:20.02 in the 100 backstroke. She finished fourth in the event and also took second place in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:28.74.

Fiorella also set a personal record Saturday. Her time of 2:45.77 in the 200 yard freestyle was the second fastest by a Lady Bear this season, and placed her fifth overall.

The Lady Bears won't dive back into the pool until the calendar turns, as they are idle for over a month until January 22nd when they return home to face Mount Saint Vincent at Brooklyn Technical High School. Meet time is set for 4:00 pm.
