California Dreaming: Lady Bears Compete in the Sunshine State

PASADENA, CA – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team made their first ever trip across the country, competing in a pair of double-dual meets hosted by the California Institute of Technology.

Despite going 0-4 in the two double-duals, many of the women swam their best races of the season. The Lady Bears nearly pulled off an upset, falling in their closest match of the trip 101-83 to fellow Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) rivals Mills College.

The Lady Bears had a number of top finishes including Catherine Muldoon (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) setting a school record in the 500 yard freestyle, coming in third in 7:20.64. Another Lady Bear also finished in third place and set a school record. Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was less than two seconds behind the second place finisher, completing the 200 yard freestyle in 2:39.02.

Senior Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) took home three top-five finishes. She finished fourth in the 50 yard freestyle (29.18) and fifth in both the 100 yard freestyle (1:04.32) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:27.60).

Freshman Rebecca Saciero posted the fastest time this season in the 200 yard individual medley, finishing in third place in 3:02.27. She was also the top finisher for St. Joseph's in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing in fourth place in 1:19.92. Maureen Donohue (Rochester, NY/Rochester) nabbed a third place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, where she finished in 1:26.03.
