Lady Bears Swimming Falls at Home to Notre Dame (Md.)
BROOKLYN. NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team suffered a 53-39 setback to Notre Dame of Maryland University in a non-conference home meet at Brooklyn Technical High School.
Notre Dame (3-1) won the opening 200 yard medley relay and went on to capture nine of the events.
Junior rookie Maureen Donohue (Rochester, NY/Rochester) turned in the Lady Bears only individual victory winning the 100 yard breaststroke (1:26.56) by a two second margin.
Freshman Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) put forth a strong effort with two second place finishes in the 200 individual medley (3:05.16) and 100 yard backstroke (1:19.47).
Senior co-captains Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) also secured second place finishes in the sprint freestyle events. Nunziata in the 50 yard free (30.01) and McMaster in the 100 yard free (1:05.15).
Jaclyn Kennedy (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall), Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney), Nunziata and McMaster, teamed up to capture the 200 yard freestyle relay (2:03.69).
The Lady Bears home meet against the College of Mount Saint Vincent scheduled for Wednesday, December 7th has been cancelled.
St. Joseph's (1-2) returns to the pool on Saturday, December 10th hosting sister campus St. Joseph's College (Long Island) concluding a four-meet home stand at Brooklyn Technical High School. The 3 p.m. meet kicks off a rivalry tripleheader against the Golden Eagles followed by women's basketball at 5 p.m. and men's basketball at 8 p.m.
