Golden Eagles Outlast Lady Bears Swimming

BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph's College, Brooklyn and St. Joseph's College, Long Island swim teams competed Saturday afternoon with the Long Island campus coming out on top, 64-29.

The Golden Eagles took first-place in every event including two each from Lauren Ouzounian, Allison Grega and Jessica Alessi. Ouzounian, last season's Skyline Conference Swimmer of the Year, breezed through the 200 yard freestyle in 2:13.90 and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:06.66.

The Lady Bears received second-place finishes in individual events from Darcy Crimi,Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney). McMaster bettered her own school record in the 100 yard freestyle by .38 seconds, crossing the line in 1:04.67. She was beaten by Grega, who finished the tight race in 1:02.09.

Nunziata lowered her season-best time in the 50 yard freestyle, coming in second in 29.47 seconds. She also saw a season best time in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in 1:09.56. Crimi took second place in the 1,000 yard freestyle, finishing in 17:21.00.

Junior rookie Maureen Donohue (Rochester, NY/Rochester) continued her impressive rookie season. She swam the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:25.83, giving her the fastest time in school history.

The Lady Bears are off until 2012, returning to the pool January 11th at 7:00 pm against Lehman before flying out to California, taking part in the California Tech Invitational January 15th and 16th.
