Lady Bears Swimming Drops Opener to Notre Dame of Maryland

BALTIMORE, Md. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team dropped a 57-39 road decision to Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon in their 2012 season opener.

The Gators (2-0) won the first three events racing out to a 20-1 lead and the Lady Bears (0-1) could never bridge the gap, Notre Dame touching the wall first in all but one event.

Sophomores Erin Collins (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Tiffany Rodriguez (New York, NY/Cathedral) finished one-two in the 40 yard free to secure the lone event victory for St. Joseph's.  Collins later placed second in the 100 yard free, finishing as the top point scorer for the Lady Bears.

Making their collegiate debuts, a trio of freshmen brought home second place finishes; Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY / HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) in the 160 yard individual medley, Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's) in the 100 yard backstroke and Connie Salazar (Astoria, NY/St. John's Prep) in the 100 yard breaststroke.

St. Joseph's returns to the pool on Tuesday, November 20th facing borough rivals Brooklyn College starting at 7 p.m. at the West Quad Center.
