Rookies Set New School Records as Lady Bears Swimming Falls to Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Freshman Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) led the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team to three event victories and set two school records in the process, but the Lady Bears fell to borough rivals Brooklyn College, 104-84, on Tuesday evening at the West Quad Center.

Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's), Maureen Donohue (Rochester, NY/Rochester), Wong and Jaclyn Montana (Brooklyn, NY/Bay Ridge Prep) captured the opening 200 yard medley relay in thrilling fashion edging Brooklyn College by only two seconds to give the Lady Bears an early 11-4 lead.

The Bulldogs captured the next three events to take a 43-20 lead and never trailed again, winning seven of the 11 events.

In only her second collegiate meet, Wong set new school records and secured individual wins in the 200 yard IM (2:52.15) and the 500 yard freestyle (7:14.35).

Summers took home the other individual event win for St. Joseph's in the 100 yard backstroke (1:09.85), also setting a new school record.

The Lady Bears received second place finishes from sophomore Erin Collins (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) in the 50 yard free (31.83) and Donohue in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:31.12).

Summers, Montana, Collins and Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) teamed up to take home the final 200 yard free relay.

St. Joseph's (0-2) returns to the pool on Wednesday, November 28 hosting Lehman College for their 2012-13 home opener at Brooklyn Technical High School. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
