Wong and Summers Improve School Records as Lady Bears Swimming Falls to Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Freshmen Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's) and Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) set three new school records and were the top point producers, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming fell to Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) foe Sarah Lawrence College, 106-79, on Saturday afternoon in at the Campbell Athletic Center.

The Lady Bears (2-4), who have been inactive from competition for nearly six weeks, fell behind early as the Gryphons (6-3) captured the first four events and built a 55-18 advantage and never relinquished the lead.

Summers snapped the Gryphons event win streak with a six-second victory in the 200 yard individual medley (2:38.93), besting her own school record by over three seconds. Summers would also bring home a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke (1:12.63).

In her first time swimming in the event this season, Wong set a new school record in the 1000 yard freestyle (14:44.98) by over 20 seconds, taking second in the event. Later in the meet Wong would lower her own school record in the 100 yard butterfly (1:20.79).

Also securing a second-place finish for the Lady Bears was sophomore Erin Collins (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) in the 100 yard freestyle (1:12.74), sophomore Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) in the 200 yard freestyle (2:38.59) and junior Haley Betancourt (New York, NY/St. Vincent Ferrer) in the 500 yard freestyle (7:52.07), a career best.

St. Joseph's returns to the pool on Friday, January 25th for a double-dual meet against HVWAC rivals the College of New Rochelle and John Jay College. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the CNR Wellness Center.
