Lady Bears Swimming Levels Record With Sweep of Div. II Post and New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team collected their first sweep of the season defeating Division II Post University, 47-45, and Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference rivals the College of New Rochelle, 69-26, on Wednesday night at the CNR Wellness Center.

Post swept the individual events, but the Lady Bears hung tough with several two-three finishes to remain close to the Eagles and St. Joseph's captured both relays to seal the victory.

Freshman Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St, Mary's) added a third Lady Bear record to her name swimming the 500-yard freestyle for the first time this season and clocking in at 6:34.10 to lower the mark by over a half-a-minute. She also added another second place finish in the 200-yard IM and led off the final 200-yard freestyle relay teaming up with Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln), Erin Collins (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Jaclyn Montana (Brooklyn, NY/Bay Ridge Prep) that clinched the sweep.

Senior Laura Sonnylal (Richmond Hill, NY/Archbishop Molloy) turned in a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.46) and the 50-yard breaststroke (41.80) to take home a pair of second place finishes.

Freshman Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY / HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) secured a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard butterfly (32.73) and the 1000-yard freestyle (14:59.78).

Montana and Collins added third place finishes in the 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle, respectively, rounding out two-three finishes for the Lady Bears in those events.

St. Joseph's returns to the pool on Sunday, February 3rd competing in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Championships at the College of New Rochelle starting at 10 a.m.
