Lady Bears Swimming Defeats Cedar Crest on Senior Night

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team wrapped up their 2012-13 campaign celebrating Senior Night with a 52-29 victory over Cedar Crest College on Friday evening at Brooklyn Technical H.S.

The Lady Bears captured 10-of-11 events to give seniors Laura Sonnylal (Richmond Hill, NY/Archbishop Molloy), Christina DellaRocca (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) and Melissa Spooner (Brooklyn, NY/Clara Barton) a win in their last collegiate meet.

Sonnylal brought home two individual wins, posting a career-best time in the 50-yard freestyle (30.53) and taking home a hard-fought win in the 100-yard breaststroke, in her final career race.

Freshman Morgan Summers (Bellerose, NY/St. Mary's) continued her dominance in the pool, collecting wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke and leading off the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Junior Haley Betancourt (New York, NY/St. Vincent Ferrer) swam season-best times in the 1000-yard freestyle (16:17.74) and 500-yard freestyle (7:34.08) for a pair of first-place finishes. 

Sophomore Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, NY/Lincoln) notched a victory in the 200-yard freestyle and finished behind Summers in the 100-yard backstroke.

Freshman Tina Wong (Brooklyn, NY/ HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) rounded out the individual winners taking the 100-yard butterfly and finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.
