Doherty Sets 100 Fly Record as Women's Swimming Duels Hunter For First Time

NEW YORK — Freshman Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) etched her name on another SJC record and collected one of two event victories but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team dropped a 72-40 non-conference decision to Hunter College on Friday evening.

Doherty Collects Another Record

  • Freshman Shannon Doherty put her name on her fifth SJC record taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly winning by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 1:12.93, breaking a mark set by Tina Wong last week. The record is the 10th to fall this season.

Summers Wins 100 Back

  • Senior Morgan Summers took home the other event win for the Lady Bears in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in a 1:11.10. Summers also earned second place points in the 50-yard backstroke (32.38) and contributed to the second-place medley and relay teams.

Other Notable Swims

  • Jillian O'Hara collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 50-yard breaststroke (40.76) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:28.11)
  • Julia Dineen was the second to touch the wall in the 50-yard butterfly (35.80) and swam a personal best to grab third place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.60)
  • Jessica Caiazzo swam a personal best in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:51.06)

Next Up for the Lady Bears

St. Joseph's will swim a non-conference dual meet against John Jay College on Monday, December 14th to close out the calendar year. Start time is slated for 6 p.m.
