Lady Bears Volleyball Defeats York, Falls to Ramapo

Regrouping from the sudden resignation of coaches Michael Schober and Mario Tang, the Lady Bears returned to action on Friday night against York College under new head coach, Kathleen O'Neill(SJC '05). The Lady Bears had a strong showing defeating the Cardinals in straight sets (25-15, 25-8, 25-17) giving O'Neill her first collegiate win as a head coach. Seniors Tamara Bulatovic (Queens, NY / Grover Cleveland) and Bala Huseinovic (Brooklyn, NY / New Utrecht) led the attack with 7 kills each and freshman Victoria Curran (Queens, NY / Mary Louis) had 11 assists.

Not having much time to rest, the team travelled to the Bradley Center in Mahwah, NJ to face Ramapo on Saturday morning. Ramapo's offensive attack proved to be too much for the Lady Bears as they fell in straight sets (12-25, 20-25, 12-25). The Roadrunners combined for 32 kills on 84 attempts hitting .238 compared with the Lady Bears 19 kills on 67 attempts. Sophomore Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY / Midwood) led St. Joseph's with 7 kills and senior setter Jamie Mascetti (Queens, NY / St. John's Prep) dished out 13 assists and had 9 digs.

The Lady Bears now stand at 3-3 on the season. They begin Hudson Valley Conference play against Yeshiva University on Thursday, September 25th at 7:30 PM for their home opener at Bishop Loughlin High School.
