Ulloa, Matthews Named AD3I All-Independent Volleyball Team Honorable Mention

NEW YORK, NY - The Association of Division III Independents has selected senior Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood) and junior Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) to the All-Independent Volleyball Team Honorable Mention in an announcement made by the conference this afternoon.

The tandem helped lead the team to a second place finish at the HVWAC Championships this past fall. The team lost a thrilling match, three games to two, against New Rochelle.

Ulloa, in her fourth and final season with the team, finished second with 197 kills in 87 out of a possible 99 sets played. Ulloa had 41 kills during the HVWAC Tournament including a double-double in the championship round against New Rochelle. She recorded double-digit kills in each match during the HVWAC Tournament, playing with an ankle injury suffered prior to the Tournament.

In her first season with the team, Matthews had a team high 226 kills and 260 digs. In the HVWAC Tournament, Matthews had 47 kills including 18 in the semifinal round upset of #1 seed Sarah Lawrence. Matthews ended the final set with a service ace to spring the Lady Bears into the championship. Matthews also had to play the role of setter for a few games due to injury. She averaged 21 assists during her six games at the position.
