Women’s Volleyball Claims First Official NCAA Victory

LA PLUME, PA – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team defeated Keystone College on the road in straight sets (25-18,25-9,25-23) on Saturday afternoon. The victory levels the Lady Bears' record to 2-2 and is the first official victory over an NCAA opponent since becoming a full active member of Division III on September 1.

Senior outside hitter Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) led St. Joseph's with 13 digs, nine kills and eight aces. Senior outside hitter Kathy McCarthy (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) chipped in nine digs, six kills and six aces. Sophomore setter Sabrina Cornia (Miller Place, NY/Miller High) dished out 18 assists.

Keystone (1-6) was led by Shelby Morgan who had an 11 dig, 10 kill double-double.

With the home game against Staten Island originally scheduled for Thursday postponed, St. Joseph's has a week off before returning to the court on Saturday, September 24th for a tri-match at Green Mountain College in Poultny, Vermont with Gordon College starting at 1:00 p.m.
