Lady Bears Fall in Four to St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, NJ – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball suffered their first loss of the season dropping a 3-1 road decision (14-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21) to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday night.

Senior outside hitter Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney), fresh off receiving Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Player of the Week honors, led the Lady Bears both offensively and defensively, recording 15 kills and 19 digs, both match-highs. Sophomore setter Sabrina Cornia (Miller Place, NY/Miller High), the HVWAC Rookie of the Week, continued to shine, handing out 29 assists with eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Nicole Rios (Astoria, NY/Mary Louis) added 10 kills and fell one dig shy of a double-double.

Saint Elizabeth (2-5) was led by Katie Cooper who amassed 16 digs, 11 kills and five aces. Amy Cooper had 23 assists and Rachel Hausler contributed 10 digs.

St. Joseph's (1-1) returns to action on Thursday, September 15 squaring off against Brooklyn College in a non-conference road tilt starting at 7 p.m.
