Women's Volleyball Stopped By Hunter

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Despite seven different Bears recording a kill, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-18) non-conference setback to Hunter College on Thursday evening at The Hill Center.

How it Happened

The opening set saw the Hawks pull away to five-point leads on several occasions, but the Bears coming back to draw even. SJC faced four set points at 24-20 before erasing all four, with kills by Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) bookending a Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) kill and a Grace Kane (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) service ace. But a pair of Bear miscues would diffuse the late bid to steal the set.

The second stanza saw the visitors race off to a 9-3 lead. SJC won three straight to pull within three, but couldn't get any closer. The Bears won the opening three points of the third set and maintained the three-point lead at 7-4, before an 8-0 Hawk run put them on top for good.

For the Bears

  • Morales led the attack for the fourth straight match, pounding a match-high nine kills and led the defense with 12 digs.
  • Adeoye put away a career-high six kills at a .400 clip and also had two blocks.
  • Kane finished with five kills and six digs.
  • Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) chipped in four kills with eight digs and two aces.
