Women’s Volleyball Closes Out Season on Two-Game Streak With Sweep of York

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team ended their 2021 campaign on a high note, securing a straight-set victory (25-14, 25-16, 25-9) over York College on Monday evening at The Hill Center.

The Bears conclude their first season under Head Coach Vera Franzese at 7-10 overall.

How it Happened

After the Cardinals (0-8) won the opening point of the match, the Bears (7-10) ran away with a 15-0 spurt behind the service of Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) who landed five aces.

York took the first three points of the second stanza and built a 9-4 lead. But a 5-0 run with Grace Kane (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) on the end line pulled the Bears even at 9-all and SJC kept the momentum going into an 18-14 advantage and maintained their separation.

SJC won the opening three points of the third set and never trailed as they combined for their best offensive frame of the match with 12 kills at a .243 clip and an 80 percent side out rate.

  • Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) and Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) led the attack with eight kills each as well as four digs. Both had efficient hitting nights with Morales swinging at .263 and Urgo at .214.
  • Intindola dished out 24 assists and served up a career-high 10 aces for a double-double.
