Women's Volleyball Falls to Farmingdale State in Straight Sets

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's women's volleyball team fell 0-3 (11-25, 17-25, 16-25) against Farmingdale State College, in the Skyline Conference match on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened

St. Joseph's (4-8, 3-2) found themselves behind 0-5 to start the first set before Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Edward R. Murrow) was able to register a kill and earn the Bears their first point. SJBK collected a combined 6 kills in the set with Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y. / Queens Metropolitan) grabbing a pair but it wasn't enough to take the set.

The Bears started out strong in the second set with their first lead coming on a kill by Adeoye to push the team up 5-4. The two teams battled back and forth until the Rams (8-7, 5-1) pulled off a nine-point run to take the lead, 15-23, and eventually the set.

St. Josephs again found themselves in a close set with FSC through the third stanza. The team fell 6-11 before capitalizing on 3 Rams errors to close the gap to 9-11. Martina Urgo's (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) two kills along with a service ace by McGinty kept the Bears in it before they ultimately fell 16-25.

For the Bears

  • Adeoye led the team with five kills followed closely by Urgo with three

  • Carol Melo (Brooklyn, N.Y. / St. Edmund Prep) led the team in dogs with 14 during the game

  • McGinty had two services aces along with Melo, Rachel Meltsin (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison), and Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) each with one

  • McGinty and Intindola each had a pair of kills.
