PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to Manhattanville College (5-25, 11-25, 21-25) on Monday night from Kennedy Gymnasium.

How it Happened

The Valiants (16-4, 7-1) opened the first set on a 19-1 run. Teuta Hoxha (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan) picked up a pair of kills prior to the hosts taking the frame.

Sandwiched between Ayomide Adeoye's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) kill, Manhattanville led 10-1 to begin the second stanza. Hoxha, along with Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) and Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan) racked up kills before the Valiants claimed a 25-11 set.

The Bears (4-11, 3-5) got off to a hot start in the third set, holding a 6-1 advantage. The Valiants slowly chipped at the SJBK advantage but Poppett and Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) combined for four kills since the Bears' five-point lead to stay afloat. Trailing 20-17, Manhattanville picked up eight of the final nine points to erase their deficit and completing the sweep.
