Women’s Volleyball Falls to Manhattanville

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team suffered a home 3-0 defeat to Manhattanville College on Monday afternoon, (9-25, 10-25, 11-25).

How it Happened

The Valiants' attack made it difficult for the Bears to pull together a scoring run of more than two throughout the match. A near-flawless effort for the visitors saw them take the first two sets 25-9 and 25-10.

The culminating stanza saw kills from Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) and Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) but their offensive efforts were not enough as the defending Skyline Conference champions won the set, 25-11, to extend their winning streak in league play to six.

For the Bears

  • Urgo and Poppett combined for four kills.

  • Carol Melo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) brought up a match-high nine digs.

  • Mireia Alba (Barcelona, Spain) had seven digs while Urgo finished with three.

  • Rachel Meltsin (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) had three assists.

  • Lejla Bektesevic (Forest Hills, N.Y./Academy of Finance and Enterprise) had the squad's lone block.
