Russell and Doherty Pace Cross Country at SJC Long Island Invitational

KINGS PARK, N.Y. — In their final tune-up before the Skyline Conference Championships, sophomore Justin Russell (Saline, Mich./Saline) and junior Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) were the top finishers for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's cross country team at the St. Joseph's College (Long Island) Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Sunday Meadow State Park. 

Women's Highlights

  • Doherty led the squad for the second time this season with a 5K time of 25:59 that placed her just inside the top 100 in 94th place.
  • Maya Bayliss (33:29) and Tamarre Phajou (33:37) crossed second and third for the Bears who didn't place in the team competition.

Men's Highlights

  • Russell covered the 8K course in 32.49 to lead the Bears in 75th place overall.
  • Four Bears all ran personal bests to complete the scoring—Christian Guaraca (37:00), Juan Sandoval (43:30), and Danny Zhang (43:36) and Dnellio Bennet (44:43) rounded out the scoring five for the Bears to take 20th place in the team scoring.

  • The Bears will compete in the Skyline Conference Championships on Sunday, October 29 at Purchase College.
