Buchanan and Russell Pace Cross Country at Skyline Championships

MILTON, N.Y. — Freshman Alexis Buchanan (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta) and senior Justin Russell (Saline, Mich./Saline) were the lead harriers for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's and men's cross country teams at the Skyline Conference Championships held on Thursday afternoon at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome.

Buchanan finished in 37th place overall with a 6-kilometer time of 29:45.44. Freshman Tianna Junior Browne (33:16.19) and senior Shannon Doherty (33:18.35) crossed second and third for the navy and gray in 69th and 70th place, respectively. Daniella Alva (36:44.90) and Tamarre Phajou (47:12.10) rounded out the scoring five as the women finished in 10th place, ahead of Old Westbury in the 11-team field.

Russell clocked in at 37:44.57 to take 103rd place. Steve Gengo (39:00.61) followed in 108th place, trailed by George Garyfallos (42:30.44, 114th place), Michael Kowlessar (43:11.24, 116th place), and D'Nellio Bennett (46:32.10, 120th place) to complete the scoring for the 11th-place men.

Next Up for the Bears

The Bears are scheduled to compete in the NJIT Halloween Classic at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J. on Sunday, November 4, starting at noon.
