Sarji Leads Cross Country at Season-Opening LIU Fall Festival

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — In her debut collegiate meet, freshman Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) led the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's cross country team to a 13th-place team finish at the LIU Fall Festival on a humid Saturday afternoon.

Sarji crossed the finish in under a half-hour, coming in at 29:57. She was followed by Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King), who completed the 5k course 42 seconds later. Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) rounded out the top three SJBK finishers with a time of 31:33. All six Bears finished the meet within 35 minutes.

Hosted by Division I Long Island University, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) was one of four Skyline Conference schools competing at the Fall Festival; finishing behind St. Joseph's (Long Island) and ahead of SUNY Old Westbury and the US Merchant Marine Academy.

Despite the men's team not scoring on the day, Evan Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y./St. John's Prep) finished the 8k run at a time of 40:14.

The Bears' next competition is on Saturday, September 16 as they take part in the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University. The women's 6k run takes place at 10:30 am while the men's 8k meet begins at 11:15 am.
