Sarji Picks Up Skyline Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW YORK — St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) freshman Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) was named the Skyline Conference Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week as the league released its weekly report earlier today.

Battling the humid conditions at Saturday's LIU Fall Festival, Sarji – making her collegiate debut – completed the 5k course with a time of 29:57; the first Bear to cross the finish. Of the Skyline-member runners to compete in the predominantly Division I-meet, Sarji placed sixth.

Sarji is the third Bear in the history of the cross country program to earn the conference's Rookie of the Week, following Justin Russell in 2017 and Kristen Candelaria – who earned St. Joseph's' first-ever Skyline weekly honor in any sport – in 2015.

Sarji and the Bears take a trip down the Jersey Shore on Saturday, September 16 as they compete in the Osprey Open, hosted by Stockton University. The women's 6k run takes place at 10:30 am while the men's 8k meet begins at 11:15 am.
