Top 10 Moments: #10 - Diamonds Sparkle on National Stage at Disney
The St. Joseph’s College Dance Team had performed at Madison Square Garden at halftime of a New York Liberty WNBA game and performed at the Prudential Center and the Izod Center during SJC basketball games, but no stage would be bigger than competing at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) College Dance Team Nationals this past January at Walt Disney World.
The Diamonds qualified for nationals for the first time in school history taking home third place at the UDA Spirit Camp last August. In addition to performing at all the home men’s and women’s basketball games, the team worked tirelessly to perfect a professionally choreographed routine and held numerous successful fundraisers to cover the cost to Orlando.
Dancing to “Best of You” from the Foo Fighters, the Diamonds were semifinalists in the Open Jazz division, where 23 teams competed. Highlights of their performance can be viewed here.
The team conducted tryouts earlier this month and the squad of 10 women have already started practicing, looking to earn a second trip to nationals at the UDA Spirit Camp at the University of Scranton this August. The Diamonds look to raise the bar even higher, carrying two routines to compete in the Jazz and Hip-Hop divisions.
The Diamonds will conduct a fall tryout in September for those still looking to join the team.
