Top 10 Moments: #10 - Mangan Captures First Cross Country Win in Lady Bears History

Before the 2012 season no member of the Lady Bears cross country team had won a meet throughout the seven-year history of the program. That changed on October 7, 2012 as senior Teresa Mangan broke through with the first win in school history at the York College Invitational.

Mangan led from start-to-finish, besting 123 runners over the 6K course at Van Cortlandt Park in a personal-best 25:47, 25 seconds better than the second place finisher. Her efforts earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Runner of the Week honors after the milestone win with the USCAA accolade being the first garnered by any SJC harrier.

As if one win wasn’t enough for the senior, she duplicated the feat in the Medgar Evers Dual on October 10th. Mangan led from start-to-finish again, covering the 3k course in 11:32, two minutes better than her nearest competitor.

The senior concluded her outstanding career capturing fourth overall at the HVWAC Championships posting a season-best time of 21:52 over the 5K course.

Mangan was also named HVWAC Runner of the Week on October 2nd and was named to the Association of Division III Independents All-Independent Third Team. The senior harrier was the top finisher for the Lady Bears in all five races and was named to the HVWAC All-Conference Team for the second straight year.
