In a historic day for Brooklyn Athletics, the St. Joseph’s College women’s swimming team hosted the program’s first home swim meet on Tuesday night at Brooklyn Technical High School. St. Joseph’s led after the eighth event, but ultimately fell to the Gryphons 77-69.

With a split second victory in the final 200 freestyle relay event, the St. Joseph’s College women’s swimming team overcame a 22 point deficit and captured their third win of the season defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins, 131-121, in the closest and most exciting meet of the season.

After over a one month hiatus, the St. Joseph’s College women’s swimming team resumed their season in peak form, defeating the College of St. Elizabeth 70-52 on Tuesday night. The Lady Bears won nine of the 14 events paced by Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) who was perfect in all her individual events.

In reports released by the Hudson Valley Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conferences earlier this week, senior guard Lew Monaco was named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and sophomore Kristen McMaster was named Women’s Swimmer of the Week for action ending December 13, 2009.

The St. Joseph’s College women’s swimming team (1-0, 1-0 HVWAC) opened their inaugural varsity campaign with a 133-113 conference victory over College of New Rochelle (1-2) at the CNR Wellness Center on Friday evening. Sophomore Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) paced the Lady Bears in the win, taking first in three of the four events she swam.
