Women's Swimming Gameday: Lady Bears at New Rochelle

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – St. Joseph's (2-6, 0-1 HVIAC) looks conclude their 2013-14 season on a high note, travelling to Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) foe The College of New Rochelle (2-7, 0-1 HVIAC) for a 8 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, January 29th.

Lady Bears Last Time Out

Sophomore Morgan Summers took home a pair of gold medals and collected the maximum four medals leading St. Joseph's to a runner up finish at the 2014 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Invitational Championship on Sunday at The College of New Rochelle Wellness Center.

Summers repeared as champion in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.84) and took the 200-yard individual medley (2:39.71) by .38 seconds to become the first Lady Bears multiple gold medalist at the championships since assistant coach Kristen McMaster.

St. Joseph's took home nine medals in total, Tina Wong repeating as silver medalist in the 1000-yard freestyle followed closely by Haley Betancourt for bronze.

Following the championship, Summers, Betancourt and Jillian O'Hara were named to the 2014 HVIAC All-Conference Team.

Blue Angels Last Time Out

The College of New Rochelle posted numerous personal and seasonal bests en route to a third place finish at the HVIAC Invitational Championship on Sunday at The College of New Rochelle Wellness Center.

The Blue Angels earned a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the 200-yard medley relay team of Milagros Lugo, Ilsy Rodriguez, Catherine Santivanez and Tina Thomas swam a season-best time of 2:18.99.

Following the championship, Santivanez, Thomas and Rodriguez were named to the 2014 HVIAC All-Conference Team.

Series History/Last Meeting

St. Joseph's holds an 8-2 edge in the all-time series against New Rochelle, but the Blue Angels beat the Lady Bears, 55-43, on December 3rd for the first time since 2008. Tina Wong and Morgan Summers collected the lone event wins for the Lady Bears. Wong captured the 1000-yard freestyle by 28 seconds with a time of 16:12.00 and Summers took the other distance event, the 500-yard freestyle, with a personal-best 6:30.02 for a one minute triumph.
