Streaking New Rochelle Squad Hands Women's Volleyball Loss in HVIAC Opener

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.—In a rematch of last year's Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finale, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision (25-13, 25-20, 25-15) to The College of New Rochelle on Thursday evening in their conference opener.

The Lady Bears (2-3, 0-1 HVIAC) suffered their first regular season conference loss in dating back to 2011, ending a streak of 14 straight. The Blue Angels (10-3, 2-0 HVIAC) continue to be one of the hottest teams in the league extending their win streak to 10.

Senior Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) added six kills. Freshman Crystal Morgan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) posted a team-best 12 digs while Samantha Cacace (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) handed out 17 assists on the team's 21 kills.

CNR took control from the opening serve racing out to a 14-1 lead in large part to hitting a blistering .455 in the first set and never turning back.

The Lady Bears fell behind by as many as eight in the second stanza before using a 6-0 run to cut their deficit to 19-18, before the hosts pulled away again and took a 25-20 set lead.

St. Joseph's took an early third-set lead, their only lead of the contest, but a 15-1 Blue Angel run helped seal the Lady Bears fate.

The Lady Bears return to the court for the third time in as many days, hosting King's College (Pa.) in a non-conference match at Carnesecca Arena at St. John's University starting at 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on SJCBears.com.
