Lauren GaNun Named Skyline Women's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

NEW YORK — Following her recent selection to the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) senior middle hitter Lauren GaNun has been named women's volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year announced by the conference office today. 

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the first-team All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average for the fall semester in the each of the conference's seven sponsored fall sports.

"I am extremely proud of Lauren for not only her talent and domination on the court as a middle hitter, but also for her hard work and excellence in the classroom," commented head women's volleyball coach Kathleen O'Neill.

In SJC Brooklyn's first year in the conference, GaNun became the first-and-only All-Skyline selection to date. The senior was a presence at middle, ranked second in the league in kills (4.14) and points per set (4.75) and fourth in the league in blocks per set (0.62).

The Fontbonne Hall Academy product received Player of the Week accolades on October 5th and was named to the weekly conference honor roll four times this season.

GaNun pounded double-digit kills in 18 of 22 matches and crossed the 20-kill mark four times this season, highlighted by a 27-kill, 12-dig double-double in a five-set conference match against Maritime. The Breezy Point, N.Y. native hit .400-or-better in five matches, assembling a .262 hitting percentage, fourth-best in the league.

On October 8th at home against John Jay, GaNun became just the second Lady Bear to join the exclusive 1,000-kill club. She finished her four-year career as the all-time SJC Brooklyn leader in attack attempts (3147) and block assists (65); and ranked second in kills (1156), kills per set (3.88), solo blocks (105), total blocks (170), points (1373.5) and points per set (4.6).

GaNun joins the following student-athletes named Skyline Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the fall semester.
