Final NCAA Division III Baseball Statistics Released

In the final statistics report for 2012, junior pitcher Paul Piccirillo finished in the top 50 in three categories, ranked 20th in hits allowed per nine innings, 21st in victories and 42nd in complete games. Senior Joseph Boccia was also among those ranked, finishing 181st in batting average.

Paul Piccirillo becomes the first Bear to receive Association of Division III Independents Pitcher of the Year honors and was named First Team All-Independent along with Joe Mendez, Thomas McKenna and Chris Cutrone. Michael Cundari, Joseph Boccia and Vinny Rossi were named to the Second Team.

After finishing with a perfect 9-0 record, junior Paul Piccirillo ended his season ranked tied for 10th in the nation in victories. The Bears also cracked the top 10 in the team rankings moving to 7th in double plays per game.

Recognizing his perfect 9-0 record on the mound, Paul Piccirillo became the first Bear to receive USCAA Baseball All-American honors. Joseph Boccia and Mike Cundari were named to the National All-Academic Team, Boccia receiving the honor for the second time in his career.

Paul Piccirillo improved to 9-0 tossing a two-hit shutout, Joe Mendez had four RBI and head coach Scott Losche notched his 100th career win as the Bears sent seniors Joseph Boccia and Danny Contant off with a four-game winning streak and the first .500 or better season, sweeping Yeshiva University 10-0 and 6-1, to finish their 2012 campaign at 18-17.

The Bears baseball road game vs. Drew scheduled for today has been rained out and will not be rescheduled. The Bears return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader at Albertus Magnus College starting at 4 p.m.
Briarcliffe Uses Big Inning to Defeat Bears

The Bears led 5-4 after four innings, but Briarcliffe College scored 13 runs in the fifth to take a 17-5 victory. Joseph Boccia collected a pair of hits with a RBI, run and a double. Kevin Diaz also knocked two hits and Michael Cundari extended his hitting streak to 12 games.
Road Game Against Drew Added to Baseball Schedule

A single game at Drew on Wednesday, May 2nd at 4 p.m. has been added to the baseball schedule. It will be the third time the Bears and Rangers will meet this season with the squads splitting the season series.
Piccirillo Remains in Top 10 in Division III in Victories

Junior pitcher Paul Piccirillo kept pace with with the Division III baseball leaders with his complete game victory over John Jay last week. Piccirillo moved up slightly into a tie for 7th in victories and tied for 30th in complete games through Sunday, April 22nd.
