Fresh off a win over first-place Farmingdale State on Tuesday, St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) looks to carry their momentum into this weekend’s Skyline Conference series against Mount Saint Mary College.

In seven innings of work, C.J. Bunnicelli earned his first win of the season, allowing one run and striking out five. The senior now shares the team lead in K’s with Matt McHugh, cracking the Skyline Top 10.

Joe Acampora picked up the six-out save in the victory, the first of his collegiate career. In 14.1 innings this campaign, the southpaw posted eight strikeouts, including two against the Rams.

At the plate, Thomas Airey and Anthony Hernandez each went 3-for-4 to combine for half of the team’s 12 hits in the win. They were joined by Lucas Collet and Louis Lombardi, who also had multi-hit games on Tuesday. Kevin Reyes recorded his two RBI on a double in the third inning while Airey and Lombardi each drove in a run.

Airey was the lone Bear to register a hit in each of the three games against FSC. The junior notched a double and triple as he combined to go 6-for-11, averaging .545 and slugging .818.

Hernandez batted .556, going 5-for-9 in the series. The freshman leads the team, and ranks in the Skyline Top 20, in batting average (.378) and runs scored (8). His 17 hits are good for fourth in the conference.

Knight Line

The Mount Saint Mary College baseball team enters this series against SJC Brooklyn winning both ends of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Purchase to snap a four-game skid.

The first game of the twin bill saw senior Jack Goodwin go 5-for-5 with a home run, double, and three RBI. His 10th-inning single drove home Anthony Franco, the eventual winning run. Goodwin now sits atop the Skyline with a.680 on-base percentage, second in batting average (.600), and fifth in slugging (.800).

Fellow senior Steven Mirra batted .500 (4-for-8) and scored a pair of runs in Tuesday’s games and went 6-for-16 in the series. His .382 average on the year is good for second on the Knights. Mirra currently is slugging at .471 and has a .410 on-base percentage.

Anthony Pacifico tossed 7.2 innings in the game, allowing an earned run and striking out four. In 14.2 innings on the year, his 0.61 ERA is the third-best in the Skyline, despite settling for a pair of no-decisions in his two starts. Pacifico, along with Anthony Collura who possesses a 1.17 ERA of his own, shares the team lead with seven strikeouts. Mike Scotto is right behind the pair in that department with six.

As a team, their five home runs this season is third-best in the Skyline trailing only Old Westbury (6) and Mount Saint Vincent (7).
