The Bear Facts

Following their defeat to No. 2 Yeshiva in their Skyline opener Thursday, St. Joseph’s is in search of their first triumph of the season as they welcome Lehman to The Hill Center. The Bears have won all three of their meetings against the Lightning dating back to 2012.

Senior Chris Mikos and freshman Chris Williams paced the Bears against the Maccabees, scoring 17 and 10 points, respectively, with Williams going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Mikos also pulled down six boards, three behind the team leader on the night Joe Sheehan. Sheehan also scored seven and logged an assist. To go with his six points, junior Evan Sirakis also distributed four assists as he and Mikos are the top distributors with nine dimes each.

Despite the setback to the midweek setback, Mikos remains SJC’s leading scorer and rebounder. He holds the Skyline lead with 10.7 caroms while his 24.7 points are good for second in the league.

The Bears return four from their November 2019 clash against the Lightning with Richie Simon posting six bench points and as many rebounds in the 77-58 triumph at The Hill Center.

Lightning Flashes

Lehman College is off to a 2-1 start to begin the 2021-22 season. They earned a season-opening win over Skyline foe Mount Saint Mary, 75-68, before splitting a pair of games at the University of Southern Maine Tip-Off Tournament last weekend.

Senior forward Isaiah Geathers led the Lightning in scoring in each of the first three games of the year, including a 29-point outburst against the Knights. Geathers’ team-leading 22.7 points per game place him third in the CUNYAC. Fellow senior Gian Batista is right behind Gaethers for second on the squad with 14.7 points. The Dominican international notched a 19-point, 10-assist double-double in the opener while dropping 17 on Southern Maine.

Will Feldman rounds out a Lehman trio to average double figures, posting 12.3 points. The junior averaged 15.5 points during the Lightning’s stint in Maine and totaled eight rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

The Lightning enter this season No. 2 in the CUNYAC Preseason Poll with 51 points and a first-place vote, seven points behind preseason favorite Baruch. Lehman fell to the Bearcats in the semifinal round of the 2020 CUNYAC Championship.
