The Bear Facts

The Bears look to build on their two-game win streak and look to split the season series with Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon.

St. Joseph’s began their winning run against Purchase last Saturday behind Kelly O’Donnell’s 30 points and 16 boards. Jamie Provino added 13 points in the triumph while Emma Kiley, Fatima Monsour, and Grace Kennedy all chipped in nine points. Kiley (12) and Monsour (11) also finished with double-digit rebounds. Alexis Breen dished out a game-high seven dimes.

When the Bears and Panthers met up on Tuesday, Kiley registered her first-career 30-point game, dropping 31 on 12-of-17 from the field and 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. O’Donnell – who became the third Bear to reach the 1,800-point plateau with 14 points – Breen (12), and Provino (11) all joined Kiley in double figures. Adding to her historic night, O’Donnell forced five steals, handed out a pair of assists, and collected nine caroms. Kennedy also had nine boards on the night.

O’Donnell (22p, 12.5r) and Kiley (20p, 10r) remain the team leaders in scoring after averaging double-doubles against Purchase. O’Donnell’s 17.9 points per game place her fifth in the Skyline while Kiley’s 15.7 is good for 10th.

Provino matched her 18-point career-high when the Bears last faced the Gryphons in December. Kiley posted an 11-point, 13-board double-double and Breen logged 14 points in a losing effort.

The Gryphon Gazette

Since defeating SJC Brooklyn in December, Sarah Lawrence went on a seven-game winless stretch; which was snapped on Wednesday against Old Westbury. The Gryphons will look to form their first win streak since winning two-in-a-row in November when they face the Bears on Sunday.

In Wednesday’s 61-51 triumph against Old Westbury, Kumi Tamura dropped a team-high 17 points and added six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Camryn Davis posted team-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (6) to go with 13 points while Lexie Wingerter rounded out a Gryphon trio in double figures with 10 points, six boards, and four distributions. Kendall Haymore and Jordyn Medina also collected six caroms against the Panthers.

Tamura’s team-leading 13.8 points per game are good for 13th in the conference.  Haymore ranks 25th in the Skyline with 10.3 points per game. The Gryphons’ three leading rebounders – Haymore (7.8 rpg, 11th), Medina (7.1 rpg, 17th), and Davis (6.8 rpg, 20th) – all crack the league’s top 25 in the category.

When Sarah Lawrence last met SJC Brooklyn, Tamura headlined a historic night as she dropped 39 points and drained eight triples; setting single-game program records in both categories. The 89-68 victory was the first over the Bears in team history and the largest margin of victory against Skyline opposition. Additionally, all five starters scored 10-plus points.
