Top 10 Moments: #8 - Another One For the Record Books

In another successful season for SJC Athletics, several Bears and Lady Bears stood out with record-breaking seasons.

Helping to lead the baseball team to a program-best 29-win season, senior Joe Mendez capped off his four-year career with Bears in style blasting 11 home runs and driving in 50 RBI, both single-season records, and for his efforts was named AD3I Player of the Year, D3Baseball.com All-American honorable mention, D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-New York Region and USCAA Second Team All-American. The outfielder from Staten Island assumed the all-time Bears lead in home runs (20), hits (174), RBI (154), doubles (60) and games started (142).

In her first season on the women's soccer team, Shannon Fahy wasted no time to make an impact. The sophomore midfielder recorded three hat tricks en route to scoring 14 goals for the Lady Bears, which ranked 44th across Division III. Fahy, who was named AD3I Offensive Player of the Year, finished her rookie season setting the single-season record for goals and points (34) and now sits just two goals away from tying the career goals mark.

Finally, the men's volleyball team set a new program record in wins, thanks in large part to junior Raul Urshela who led the Bears in most offensive categories. Urshela put away a Bears single-season record 236 kills and scored a single-season record 294.5 points. The outside hitter from Orlando, Florida – who was also mentioned at No. 10 of our list for his highlight-reel bicycle kick while playing for the men's soccer team – was the first Bear to reach 500 career kills and is the career leader in kills (585), blocks (131) and points (741.5) through his junior season.
