Baseball Edged by Old Westbury in Final Keyspan Game

BROOKLYN, NY – Anthony Langone (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) went 3-for-4 in a losing effort as the St. Joseph's College baseball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Old Westbury Panthers on Thursday at Keyspan Park.  Old Westbury improves to 16-10 and the Bears slip to 9-14.

Chris Coffey(Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC) received the loss on the mound giving up two runs (one unearned) in five innings on two hits and four walks while striking out one.  The loss snaps his three-game winning streak.

Old Westbury scored the deciding run in the second inning after an error allowed Ryan Blanco to reach and advance to second.  Blanco stole third setting up a sacrifice bunt that brought him home.

Joshua Burgos worked a complete game shutout for the Panthers, walking one and striking out one.

St. Joseph's held a 7-4 advantage in hits, but were unable to advance their base runners, only reaching third base once and stranding eight.  A.J. Passione (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian), Steve Tanamal (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht), Chris Davidson (San Carlos, CA/Canada College) and Mario Noriega (Los Angeles, CA/South Pasadena) also registered hits for the Bears.  Davidson extends his hitting streak to 10 games.

Jon Cubero(Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) worked three innings in relief, surrendering one unearned run on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

St. Joseph's returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 18th travelling to Lincoln University (PA) for a two game slate.  The two teams split the first meeting earlier in the season where the Bears hosted the Lions.
