Piccirillo Named ABCA/Rawlings Third Team All-Region

NEW YORK, NY - St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior starting pitcher Paul Piccirillo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region Team, adding to his long list of accolades, regognizing his 9-0 season on the mound.  Piccirillo was a third team selection for the New York region.

Piccirillo is the first Bear to receive the ABCA honor, also the first to be named United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American and Association of Division III Independents Pitcher of the Year.

Piccirillo accounted for half of the Bears wins in an 18-17 season, the first winning season in school history. At the conclusion of the Bears season, Piccirillo was ranked tied for 10th in victories in NCAA Division III. He made nine starts on the mound and tossed six complete games and two shutouts, assembling a 2.78 ERA over 71.1 innings of work, striking out 61 batters, setting a new single season Bears record.

Piccirillo tossed a nine-inning, complete game, three-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory over CCNY, striking out a then career-best nine, before improving that mark with 11 strikeouts in a nine-inning 2-1 victory over John Jay. Piccirillo closed the season with a seven-inning, complete game, two-hit shutout against Yeshiva.
