BROOKLYN, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior outfielder Joe Mendez (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) has been named D3baseball.com First Team All-New York Region after his impressive 2013 campaign helping lead the Bears to a school record 20 wins.

Mendez is the first Bear to receive the D3baseball.com honor after having an outstanding season at the plate as he led the team with four home runs, 41 RBI (No. 56 in Div. III) and .611 slugging percentage. The outfielder hit an impressive .365 on the year setting a school record with his 19 doubles (No. 14 in Div. III). The junior was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week and AD3I Player of the Week on April 23rd after going 4-for-5 with seven RBI and five runs scored against The King's College.

Mendez was named USCAA and AD3I Player of the Week on April 30th after becoming the first Bear to record 100th career RBI with his double in first inning of game one win over SUNYIT. The outfielder reached another milestone as he recorded his 100th career hit against Staten Island on March 30th. The junior led St. Joseph's with his 13 multiple-RBI games and had 13 multi-hit games.

The 2013 season is the second season these have been awarded, and 713 players were nominated. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
