PALISADES PARK, N.J. — Senior Brian Luebcke (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) homered twice and drove in eight RBI on the afternoon and junior Mitch Brigando (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) became the fifth and fastest Bear to strike out 100 batters as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball swept Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon in a Skyline Conference doubleheader.

How it Happened in Game 1

  • St. Joseph's exploded for six first-inning runs to assert control of game one. The Bears recorded six hits in the inning, including an RBI double from Brian Luebcke and run scoring singles off the bats of Nicholas LoPrinzi, Mitch Brigando and Patrick McGreevy.
  • Starter Connor Pasetti held Yeshiva's offense to just a pair of hits in the first three innings. In the top of the fourth, Luebcke added to St. Joseph's advantage with a two-run inside-the-park home run.
  • In the fifth, Michael Camerada delivered his own inside-the-park two-run blast to make it 10-0.
  • Pasetti and the Bears coasted to the finish. Reliever Jonathan Schneider spun a scoreless seventh to seal the 12-1 win.

How it Happened in Game 2

  • After a scoreless first, John Condon led off the second inning with a triple to set up Nicholas LoPrinzi's RBI single. The Bears tacked on three more in the third to separate themselves. Brian Luebcke highlighted the inning with a two-run home run, his second of the afternoon.
  • Yeshiva got on the board in the bottom of the third, making the most of two hits, a walk and a passed ball allowing the only run allowed by starter Mitch Brigando to come unearned.
  • Leading 5-1 heading into the sixth, St. Joseph's bats erupted for four more. The Bears knocked three hits and made the most of two defensive miscues. Luebcke capped the rally with a two-RBI double.
  • Yeshiva tacked on one in the sixth inning, but reliever Anthony Amatuzzi shut the door in the seventh to cement the sweep and victory for Brigando as he improved to 3-2 on the season.
