The Bear Facts
- The Bears enter the weekend's contest at a level .500 and in a tie for sixth place. After dropping a twinbill to first place Old Westbury last Saturday. the Bears rebounded with a convincing sweep of Yeshiva.
- SJC Brooklyn leads the Skyline with a .319 average (64th in DIII), 19 home runs (26th in DIII) and .463 slugging (42nd in DIII).
- Named Skyline Player of the Week for the third time on Monday, senior Brian Luebcke sits atop the Skyline in slugging (.750), hits (42), RBI (35), home runs (6) and doubles (13). He leads the team on the hill with a 3-1 record and a team-low 3.83 ERA over 40 innings pitched and needs just eight more strikeouts to join the 100-K club.
- Junior Mitch Brigando leads the team with 37 strikeouts and along with Luebcke are among four pitchers with three wins each. He became the fifth and fastest Bear to reach 100 strikeouts, doing so in 114.2 innings pitched after fanning six at Yeshiva on Sunday.
- Freshman John Condon ranks follows Luebcke in batting with a .363 average and 17 RBI.
- After collecting three RBI and his fourth home run of the season on Sunday, Michael Camerada is second on the team in RBI (20) and extra base hits (10), lifting his average to .346.
Inside the Eagles' Nest
- The Golden Eagles enter the weekend tied with the Bears with an even .500 mark at 4-4 after splitting a doubleheader with Farmingdale State on Wednesday, dropping the 9-inning affair, 7-0, before salvaging a split and handing the Rams their first league loss in the nightcap, 5-1.
- Playing the same three league teams as Brooklyn, Long Island matched the Bears results--swept by Old Westbury, sweeping Yeshiva and splitting with Maritime.
- Last season, the Golden Eagles finished as regular season champions but fell in the double-elimination round. They were picked to finish second in the preseason coaches poll.
- Nick Girardi enters as the reigning Co-Player of the Week, and bats .382 with 11 RBI. The senior lefty P/OF was last year's Skyline Player of the Year and leads five returning 2015 All-Skyline selections (Joseph Calabrese, Josh Outsen, Brendan Sullivan, Joseph Lynn). Girardi also leads the team on the hill with 37 K's in only 20.2 innings pitched and carries a 2-2 record.
- Ryan Aloise boasts a 4-1 mark, ranked second in the league in wins, and holds a team-best 2.38 ERA.
- Anthony Bonilla is the top run producer with 18 RBI and 10 extra base hits, with a .307 average.
Panther Prowlings
- Purchase enters the weekend sitting in third place in the congested league standings. The will look to snap a three-game skid facing Maritime on the road on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend vs. the Bears.
- In their last league outing, the Panthers were narrowly swept by Farmingdale State last Sunday, snapping a five-game Skyline winning streak.
- The Panthers rank just ahead of the Bears in fielding percentage at .970 ranked 10th in DIII/
- Purchase is led by senior Matthew Chavez who is batting .347 with a team-high-tying 18 RBI and team-leading 8 extra base hits. Rookie Brian Cunningham follows with a .342 average and 14 RBI and has a nine-game hitting streak entering the weekend.
- Senior Brendan LaPorte, a second-team All-Skyline honoree last year, carries a .321 average as the team's leadoff hitter and has a team-best 23 runs scored.
- Junior Miguel Reyes leads the rotation with a 3-1 record and Skyline-best 0.96 ERA over 37.1 innings pitched. Lukas Chin follows with a 2.22 ERA and an unblemished 3-0 record and team-high 24 strikeouts over 28.1 innings and five starts.
- Purchase ranks 25th in DIII with 2.33 stolen bases per game, led by William Kaul's 13 thefts, only caught once.
