Brigando Named Skyline Pitcher of the Week; Rapp Receives Honor Roll Nod

NEW YORK — Posting a 2-0 mark on the week in conference play without allowing a run, senior Mitch Brigando (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) has been named the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office yesterday.

Brigando opened the week with five scoreless innings against Yeshiva on Tuesday striking out three, scattering two hits and as many walks. He went the distance on Sunday against Mount Saint Vincent, hurling a seven-inning shutout, fanning six and spreading out three hits and one walk. The shutout was the third of his career and he now is the program leader in the category.

Also recognized for his efforts this week is senior Francis Rapp (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) who landed on the weekly honor roll batting a team-leading .533 last week (6-for-15) with six runs scored and three RBI. He highlighted the week with a 4-for-4 effort with two runs scored and two RBI in the game one triumph over Mount Saint Vincent. Rapp was perfect from his position at shortstop defensively all 28 chances and a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.

Brigando receives the Pitcher of the Week honor for the first time in his career and Rapp lands on the honor roll for the fourth time.

St. Joseph's (5-3) posted a 4-1 mark last week and currently sits in a tie atop the league standings with a 4-0 record after doubleheader sweeps of Yeshiva and Mount Saint Vincent.

The Bears are slated to return to the diamond facing Baruch College in a single non-conference game at MCU Park on Thursday at 4 p.m.
