Condon Goes Yard But Drew Edges Baseball, 6-5

MADISON, N.J. — Sophomore John Condon (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) launched his first home run of the season, a three-run blast that gave the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team a 5-2 lead, but Drew University rallied with four runs in the sixth and handed the Bears a 6-5 non-conference defeat on Wednesday afternoon.

Condon and Anthony Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) combined to drive in all five Bear runs.

• The hosts scored first with a solo run in the opening frame coming across on a wild pitch, but the Bears countered with a solo run in the second loading the bases and Anthony Camerada bringing Adam Schwartz in on a grounder.
• Drew went ahead again 2-1 after three, with St. Joseph's immediately countering to tie the game in the fourth, Camerada once again delivering a run with a triple to the opposite field scoring Matthew Trudden from first who singled before him.
• The Bears took their first lead of the game in the fifth. With Nicholas LoPrinzi standing at first reaching on an error and Luke Rehn on second after reaching on fielder's choice, John Condon's one-out blast to right field gave the Bears a 5-2 lead.
• But St. Joseph's couldn't hold off the hosts who surged back on top with four in the sixth sending 10 to the plate and scoring four runs on three hits, only two earned after a Bears miscue.
• The Bears managed a runner to second in both the seventh and ninth frames, but couldn't find the trying run.

• St. Joseph's outhit Drew, 9-6 with eight different Bears knocking a hit.
• John Condon (2-for-3) was the only player on either side with a multi-hit game, also walking twice. He finished with three RBI launching his second home run of his collegiate career.
• Anthony Camerada (1-for-4) made the most of his first start of the season driving in a pair of runs, with his lone base knock a triple.
• Paul Pellegrino and Kevin White pitched perfect frames in the fifth and eighth, respectively.
• Peter Terranova (1 IP, 1 H), Joseph Titta (1 IP, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB), Charlie Salvador (1.1 IP, 0 H, 2 BB) all had scoreless relief appearances.
