Baseball Rounds Out Skyline Slate with Defeats to Mount Saint Vincent

BRONX, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University Brooklyn baseball team dropped their final Skyline Conference games of the season on Sunday afternoon, coming out on the wrong side of 8-2 and 9-6 results against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

How it Happened, Game 1

A pair of runs in each of the first two innings saw the Dolphins (25-15, 13-7) take an early 4-0 lead. The top of the third saw the Bears (9-27, 7-13) cut their deficit in half; highlighted by Anthony Hernandez's (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) single to right.

CMSV restored their four-run lead behind a two-run fifth inning. A two-RBI double in the sixth brought in a pair of insurance runs, sealing the host's 8-2 triumph.

Game 2

Andrew Monda (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) tossed a pair of scoreless innings to begin the nightcap. In the third, Eric Zimmermann launched a three-run home run past the left-field fence to take a 3-0 lead. Mount Saint Vincent added four runs in the fifth to further increase their advantage to 7-0.

However, with two outs in the sixth and Mike Medina Jr. (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) in scoring position, Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI) went yard; sending the pitch well beyond dead center to put the Bears on the board. A Dolphin homer put them ahead 8-2 in the bottom half of the inning before the Bears trimmed the host's lead to 8-5 in the seventh.

Hernandez's double brought in Thomas Airey (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin), followed by Chris Leary (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) scoring on a groundout to cut the CMSV lead in half. Hernandez then scored on Louis Lombardi's (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) sacrifice fly.

The Dolphins' ninth run of the game came on a double from Jacob Blinstrub in the bottom of the eighth. Hernandez homered for the second time in as many days in the ninth, confirming the 9-6 scoreline.
