Megafu Named HVMAC Rookie of the Week for Third Time

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) earned Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Rookie of the Week honors after helping lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team to a pair of conference wins over Sarah Lawrence and Albany Pharmacy.

The freshman notched his 13th double-double of the season--a category he ranks No. 4 in NCAA Division III--posting 14 points and 10 rebounds helping the Bears to the win over Albany Pharmacy. For the week, the three-time Rookie of the Week selection averaged 13.0 points, 50 percent shooting (10-20), 8.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals as St. Joseph's moved within a game and a half behind first-place Berkeley in the HVMAC.

Megafu is currently shooting an efficient 60% from the field (No. 24 in Division III) and is averaging 11.4 rebounds (No. 9 in Division III). The forward has led the team in scoring six times, rebounding 11 times and has reached double-digit rebounds in 14 of his last 16 games.

Also recognized by the conference was sophomore forward David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) who was named to the honor roll after averaging 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks. Louison led the team in scoring over the week and shot 54.2 percent (13-24) from the field.

The Rookie of the Week honor is the fourth earned by a Bear this season with freshman Matt O'Neill (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) the other recipient of the award back in January.  This award is the eighth earned by Megafu this season after receiving USCAA Player of the Week, AD3I Player of the Week twice, AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for December and HVMAC Player of the Week during his rookie campaign.   

St. Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday, February 6th when they take travel to Hostos Community College to take on HVMAC foe Vaughn College with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
