Bears Receive Bid to 2013 USCAA National Championships
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – For the first time since 2007, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team has earned a berth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships to be held on February 26 to March 2 in Uniontown, Pa. on the campus of Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.
It will mark the first time the Bears (16-11) will have qualified for the Division I tournament, moving up in ranks last season when the program became a full NCAA Division III member. It is the fifth appearance all-time for the St. Joseph's, who made four appearances from 2003-2007, their best finish national runner-up in 2003.
St. Joseph's has received the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will begin their quest for their first national championship hoping to play Cinderella against No. 1 seed Rochester College (Mich.) in a quarterfinal round matchup on Wednesday, February 27th at 2 p.m. Rochester earns top seeding for the third straight year and was last year's national runner-up.
Waiting in the wings for a potential semifinal round matchup are No. 4 Lindenwood University-Belleville and No. 5 Southern Virginia University.
