Five Bears Named to HVMAC Winter/Spring All-Academic Team

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In an announcement made by the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference earlier today, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) sophomore David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep), junior John Moore (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy), junior Matt Marino (Fort Wayne, IN/Rutherford), sophomore Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) and junior Javier Bosque (Brooklyn, NY/LaSalle Academy) were all named to the 2013 Winter/Spring All-Academic Team recognizing their excellence in the field of play and in the classroom.

This is the first time that Louison and Bosque have been named to the All-Academic Team while Urshela was named to the Fall All-Academic Team after playing for the men's soccer team. Moore and Marino are named to the team for the second consecutive year after both played on the men's basketball team. All five athletes were recognized by the USCAA for their achievement in the classroom having been named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team.

Louison is a forward on the basketball team and became St. Joseph's first USCAA All-American selection since 2007 while also being named to the HVMAC All-Conference Team after leading the Bears with his 13.8 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore recorded 13 double-doubles on the year including two 20-point, 20- rebound performances, and set career-highs in rebounds, points, and blocked shots.

Moore played forward for the basketball team and appeared in 10 games setting a new school single-game record, swatting away five shots in the Bears win over Culinary along with pouring in a career-high-tying seven points.

Marino is a guard on the basketball team and appeared in eight games averaging 6.0 points per game while scoring a season-high 10 points against Culinary.

Urshela, a sophomore on the volleyball team appeared and started in all 21 matches for the Bears leading the team with 208 kills and 159 digs as the Bears set a school-record with seven wins. The outside hitter thrived on the defensive end as he finished the season with a team-high 60 blocks.

Bosque, a junior played in 17 matches recording nine kills and 72 digs on the year. The outside hitter had a career-high three kills and 12 digs in St. Joseph's victory over Webb.

The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and have earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the conclusion of the spring semester, and participate in one of the conference's winter and spring sports – basketball, tennis and volleyball.
