David Louison Tabbed as SJC Brooklyn Class of 2015 Valedictorian
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Men's basketball senior standout David Louison will lead the Class of 2015 as valedictorian when the Brooklyn campus of St. Joseph's College celebrates its ninety-sixth annual commencement exercises on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge.
Louison is the first student-athlete to be selected as valedictorian since Kathleen O'Neill, head women's volleyball coach, in 2005. One of 17 graduates of the honors program, he will receive his Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice with a minor in sociology.
On the hardwood, the St. Edmund Prep product has collected numerous accolades over the course of his career and was the first Brooklyn student-athlete to receive CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America First Team honors—one the highest academic accolades awarded to collegiate athletes.
The career 1,698 point scorer with 1,195 rebounds was also named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Year, received his third USCAA First Team All-American honor, selected to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association All-Met First Team, voted to compete in the National Association of Basketball Coaches/Reese's Division III College All-Star Game, named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and named to the All-Association of Division III Independents and All-HVIAC Teams for the fourth time in his career.
Louison led St. Joseph's this season with 16.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game this season, guiding the Bears to an 18-10 record and a postseason berth to the USCAA National Championships.
Off the court, Louison has worked in the U.S. Attorney's Office as a student clerk since June 2012. After graduation, Louison plans to continue working in the legal field to continue gaining experience before attending law school and pursuing a career as an attorney.
